SCHOOL TRUSTEE—5 PRIORITIES
Rural education • Stronger opportunities • A voice that shows up
Three terms of experience. A clear focus on rural students, families and staff.
FIVE PRIORITIES FOR THE NEXT TERM
1.
PREPARE STUDENTS FOR AN AI WORLD – AI Task Force
Establish an AI Task Force of industry experts, educators, parents and students to develop practical guidance for responsible AI use, teacher support, academic integrity and future-ready skills.
2.
MAKE INCLUSIVE EDUCATION WORK BETTER:
Ask the honest questions: How is inclusive education working? Where are the pressure points?
How could it work better for all students and staff? Listen to students, families, teachers,
CEAs and administrators.
3.
STRENGTHEN RURAL ELEMENTARY ADMINISTRATION
Advocate for additional administrative capacity at Raft River, Vavenby and Blue River so principals and staff have the support needed to serve small rural schools well.
4.
EXPAND OPPORTUNITY BEYOND THE CLASSROOM
Keep pushing for equitable access to trades, technology, sports, arts, career education, work experience and post-secondary pathways—it’s time to talk about vocational opportunities in addition to trades. College and technical schools that offer real world post-secondary options with more affordable pathways. Bring more courses TO rural; CEA, health care training, skill upgrades.
Advocate for a RURAL Equity Fund that support costs associated with experiences only available outside the community.
5.
KEEP RURAL VOICES HEARD:
Continue to advocate for the inequity that our staff and parents face; bring opportunities TO the North Thompson. Travel time is a cost. Travel should not have to be one way. Bring local voices into decisions before they are made. Rural schools have different realities, and those realities need to be part of district planning, staffing, programming and budgets.
STRONG RURAL SCHOOLS.
SUPPORTED STAFF.
OPPORTUNITIES FOR EVERY STUDENT.
