SHELLEY SIM
COMMITTED TO COMMUNITY
To work collaboratively to build a strong and sustainable community that fosters social and economic vitality that ensures people have place and space to thrive, flourish, prosper and feel that they belong.
My name is Shelley Sim and I seeking re-election for a 4th term as Councillor for the District of Clearwater.
For eleven years, I have had the privilege of representing the community of Clearwater. I am proud of what the community has accomplished, and I remain in awe at the power of our community when we work together.
I love this community. I love our rural life and I love the kindness of the community, the outdoor recreation, and the many different opportunities that present because of dedicated volunteers that lean in to “make things happen”. I love that my kids are safe and if I leave my wallet at the grocery store, I will likely get it back. I love the values that come with a small town and hope that no matter how we grow, we are mindful of our roots and diligent of the legacy we leave behind.
My husband and I have lived here for 28 years. We have three kids. Our two eldest graduated from CSS and then went on to graduate from the University of Victoria. Our youngest is currently in grade 11 at CSS and is involved in 4-H, hockey, soccer, ball, and anything that has a motor. Clearwater has afforded our family so many opportunities and I am grateful.
For over 20 years, I was the principal owner/operator of Original Holidays, an incorporated company that organized Canadian holidays for the European traveler. I sold this company and currently work with the Rural and Remote Division of Family Practice as well as serving a third term as a School Board Trustee for the North Thompson.
I am an active volunteer and love a good community event! Over the past three terms, I have co-ordinated the Clearwater Canoe Regatta, helped organize several Fun Days with the Clearwater Ski Hill, initiated 100+ People That Care which generated over $26,000 into the community. One of my favourite events is the Clearwater Community Christmas Dinner which saw us deliver over 460 meals last December. In short, I’m a doer.

ABOUT SHELLEY SIM

GOALS AND PLANS
I have an ambitious list, but it is possible. The future is bright for Clearwater. We are a community made up of many different voices but what binds us together is our faith in one another and our ability to determine and shape our community for tomorrow and the years to follow. In my opinion, our greatest strength is our citizens.
1
To ensure that we address the social and business needs of our community
2
Address housing pressures by way of updating the Official Community Plan and identifying new policies that would support and address the full spectrum of housing needs and pressures
3
Establish annual anchor events that invigorate community spirit and bolster economic opportunities and assist with new tourism development
4
Identify opportunities for District revenue opportunities to help offset reliance on property tax revenues
5
Implement Community Economic Development Plan
6
Establish budget and timelines for infrastructure investment to address growth opportunities
7
Identify opportunities that would support the growth of art, culture and music in the District
8
Continue to vigorously support professional recruitment and retention efforts especially as it relates to healthcare.
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, organized citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has”.
